It’s ironic that the X Factor threw Misha B under a bus during the controversial ‘bully-gate’ debacle last season, because she just might be the one able to salvage the show’s ever decreasing credibility. The 20 year old Mancunian recently released a mixtape called ‘Why Hello World’ and is said to be gearing up to release an album under a Sony imprint. I had a quick listen a few days ago and loved it. It’s everything Misha was when she appeared on the show: fresh, unique, bold and multi-faceted. Some of the songs are just rehashes of the stuff we heard on the show, such as her bass-heavy, hip-hop inspired cover of Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. Elsewhere we’re presented with new tracks that blend seamlessly through the star in the making’s key musical influences such as dancehall, R&B, hip hop, electro and pop. If you’ve yet to listen check it out here. Misha’s the first artist in a while who I’ve actually felt excited about. If she is afforded true artistic freedom to explore, create and do what she does best, she’ll hopefully breathe some much needed fuel into the black British music scene. As you can probably tell – I heart this girl. Wishing her the best of luck. She certainly deserves it.
