This Sunday (29th April) head down to Queen Elizabeth Hall at The Southbank Centre for The Jazz Ticket National Finale featuring performances by up to 200 talented young musicians from across the UK. The Jazz Ticket National Finale is an innovative and inspiring project that nurtured the talents of around 600 students aged 11-18 from 54 schools in Manchester, Humberside, Leicester, Luton, London, Southampton, Bristol and Brighton, and the teachings of which will be on display this weekend.
The event is free and will kick off at 6pm on the main stage in the Queen Elizabeth Hall opening with performances from London Jazz Ticket schools from Harrow, Barking & Dagenham, Southwark and Camden in celebration of six Giants of Jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaría, Thelonious Monk, Tadd Dameron and Buddy Rich.
Performances will be interspersed with archive films produced exclusively for The Jazz Ticket. In the second half of the concert the Nu Civilisation Orchestra and special guest Soweto Kinch will honour the legacy of these jazz icons with a dazzling set of classic big band repertoire, including an original piece entitled A Journey with the Giants of Jazz, commissioned from Peter Edwards by Turner Sims and Tomorrow’s Warriors for the PRS Foundation New Music Biennial/Hull UK City of Culture 2017. This particular event will be priced at £15.00
