I don’t know about anyone else, but I had an awesome time at Afro Hair & Beauty Live today. Setting off from my home at an ungodly hour, I arrived at the Business Design Centre in no time at all and right away started setting up our Blackhair Mags stand in anticipation of the crowds heading to the biggest hair consumer show for Black women in the UK. And boy, did they arrive in their droves. From the time the doors opened we didn’t get a moment to rest as hundreds of women gathered round to buy subscriptions, fill out our reader surveys for gooodie bags and watched as our regular contributor, Charlotte Mensah, did various African threading styles on our hair models.
It was also great to catch up with the hair crew again including the lovely Felicia Leatherwood, the hardworking and talented Dionne Smith, braid specialist, Angela Plummer, Wesley Ricketts from Avlon (Keracare) as well as bloggers Laila Jean from Fusion of Cultures, Crystal Afro from United Kinkdom and Louisa K from Afro Blush.
Without a doubt, the natural hair stands were the biggest crowd pullers. Stands housing brands such as Jane Carter, Beautiful Textures and Root II Tip were never empty, with women constantly hovering around the area to try and buy. US natural hair brand, Miss Jessie’s had a massive presence right by the stage where founders Miko and Titi Branch did some amazing demonstrations on hair models, showing the versatility of the popular line with the massive Stateside following. Natualistas will be pleased to know that the brand is heading to PAKS very soon.
I captured the day with a few snaps. I really must remember to charge my camera battery and bring it along to the next event as I really fear these pics don’t do the events I attend much justice.
