We’ve teamed up with the Theatre Royal Stratford East to offer one lucky reader the chance to win a pair of tickets to the critically-acclaimed musical The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin which starts a run at the iconic venue from 1st Feb – 11th March. Based on a fictional character named Viveca Stanton, it tells the story of a bright and talented African-American young woman who comes from a middle-class background and dreams of becoming a dancer, and chooses to face the challenges of racism and sexism with optimism and in the process ends up embarking on a journey of truth and self-discovery.
A satirical coming-of-age story spanning the sixties through the nineties backed by an original score fusing Motown, pop and R&B, Black Girl was written by Kirsten Childs and stars Karis Jack in the lead role with a supporting cast which includes Jay Marsh and Sharon Wattis.
