After a successful stint on Broadway, a musical based on the legendary record label, Motown, heads to the UK in February 2016. Motown The Musical is based on the much-adored hit factory founded by former boxer turned music mogul, Berry Gordy, the charismatic head honcho responsible for launching the careers of some of the most iconic artists from the last century including Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross. The story of Motown’s ascension is the epitome of the American Dream, but Gordy would be the first to admit that success didn’t come without its challenges and heartbreaks, something I hope the production doesn’t shy away from telling. And with such a vast catalogue of mouth-watering classic hits to choose from, no doubt the musical will have audiences if not dancing in the streets, at least shimmying down the aisles.
